Getting There

• Car

  If you're starting from Joseph, Oregon, take OR-82 E towards Enterprise. Continue on OR-82 for about 16 miles. Once you reach Enterprise, turn left onto Wallowa Lake Highway (OR-351) and follow it until you reach the junction with Forest Road 39. Turn right onto Forest Road 39, and continue for approximately 12 miles until you reach the junction with NF-490. Turn left onto NF-490 and drive for about 7 miles. The Hells Canyon Overlook will be on your right. Keep an eye out for signs; the overlook is a popular spot.

• Public Transportation + Car

  For those relying on public transportation, take a bus from La Grande or Baker City to Enterprise, Oregon. From Enterprise, you will need to rent a car or find a local taxi service to reach Hells Canyon Overlook. Follow the driving directions provided above from Enterprise. Please note that public transit options may be limited, so check schedules in advance.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous cyclist, you can bike from Joseph, Oregon. Take the same route as by car via OR-82 E and Wallowa Lake Highway. The ride is approximately 30 miles one way and involves some uphill segments, so be prepared for a challenging ride. Ensure you have adequate supplies and a map for navigation, as cell service may be limited in some areas.
