Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from The Dalles, take I-84 E. After about 20 miles, take exit 87 for US-97 S towards Madras. Continue on US-97 S for approximately 30 miles. Take the exit toward Wasco and turn left onto OR-206 E. Follow OR-206 E for about 5 miles until you reach Wasco. Upon entering Wasco, look for signs directing you to the Old Oregon Trail Monument, which is located at the intersection of Main St and 1st Ave. There is a small parking area near the monument.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in Wasco County, but you can use the local bus service, Columbia Area Transit. Check their schedule for routes that may take you to Wasco. Once you arrive in Wasco, the Old Oregon Trail Monument is within walking distance from the main bus stop located on Main St. Head east on Main St, and you will reach the monument at the intersection of Main St and 1st Ave.

  For those who prefer cycling, Wasco is accessible via several rural roads. If you are in The Dalles, you can bike along the scenic US-97 S. Take care to ride along the shoulder as traffic can be busy. Once you approach Wasco, follow the signs to the Old Oregon Trail Monument which is located at the intersection of Main St and 1st Ave. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring water, especially during warmer months.

• Walking

  If you are already in Wasco, the Old Oregon Trail Monument is easily accessible on foot. Start at the center of town near the Wasco City Park. Head east on Main St and continue until you reach the intersection with 1st Ave. The monument will be on your left. This is a short walk, approximately 0.5 miles, and is ideal for those looking to stretch their legs while exploring the town.
