Walking
From the center of Sagada, head towards the main road (Banaue-Sagada Road). Take a right and walk towards the direction of the Sagada Municipal Hall. Continue walking straight until you reach the junction where the road splits. Follow the sign that points to 'Sumaguing Cave'. This road will lead you through a scenic route. As you walk, keep your eyes open for signs of Balangagan Cave. After about 20-30 minutes, you will reach a small path on your left leading to Balangagan Cave. Follow this path until you arrive at the cave entrance.
Hiking
If you prefer a more adventurous route, from the Sagada town center, head towards the Echo Valley and Hanging Coffins first. Follow the path downwards until you reach the hanging coffins. After visiting this site, continue on the same path down to the river. Cross the river and start hiking uphill towards the hills where Balangagan Cave is located. Look for local guides or signs along the way as the route can be tricky. It might take about 1-2 hours depending on your pace.
Local Guide
For a more informative experience, consider hiring a local guide from Sagada. You can find guides near the municipal hall or at the tourist information center. A guide will not only take you to Balangagan Cave but also provide insights into the cave's history and significance. The guide will lead you through the safest and most scenic route, which may include a combination of walking and hiking.
