History and Architecture
Hala Koszyki, constructed between 1906 and 1909 on the site of the former Koszyki farmstead, was designed by architect Juliusz Dzierżanowski in the Art Nouveau style for the city of Warsaw. The main hall measures 77 by 27 meters with two perpendicular wings, featuring a U-shaped layout opening toward Koszykowa Street. It originally housed 4 large multi-story shops, 24 smaller stores, 60 meat stalls, 12 fish stalls with live fish basins, and 144 market stands, all supported by basements for storage and cooling facilities.Revitalization and Modern Era
After years of decline, the hall underwent a major restoration completed in 2016, transforming it into a vibrant mixed-use space. The 7,000 square meter complex now integrates retail, dining, and event areas while preserving its historic facade. Adjacent six-story office buildings and a 200-space underground parking enhance accessibility, with direct links to the commercial zones.Dining and Shopping
Today, Hala Koszyki buzzes with over a dozen restaurants offering international cuisines including sushi, Polish staples, tapas, and bakeries. Specialty shops sell books, flowers, candies, and artisanal goods, complemented by a supermarket. The food court atmosphere evokes a modern European market, ideal for casual meals or gourmet browsing.Cultural and Events Scene
The hall hosts frequent cultural happenings like art exhibitions, craft markets, live music, and summer concerts under the open sky. Its central location in Śródmieście makes it a social hub for locals and visitors, blending tradition with contemporary Warsaw energy.Practical Information
