From Coimbra, head to the main bus station, Terminal Rodoviário de Coimbra, located at Av. Emídio Navarro. Look for buses heading to Penela. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Penela, disembark at the 'Penela' bus stop. From there, follow the signs to the Castle, which is about a 10-15 minute walk uphill.

Take a train from Coimbra-B train station to the nearest major train station, which is in the town of Miranda do Corvo. This journey takes around 20-30 minutes. Upon arrival at Miranda do Corvo, exit the train station and catch a local bus (check the schedule ahead of time, as services may be limited) that goes to Penela. After getting off at the Penela stop, walk approximately 10-15 minutes uphill to the Castle.

If you are up for a hike, you can walk from Coimbra to Penela. Start at Praça da República and head south towards the S. Martinho do Bispo area.
