Train
To get to Sintra from Lisbon, start by making your way to the Rossio Train Station (Estação de Rossio). You can reach this station by taking the Metro to the Rossio station on the Green Line (Linha Verde). Once you arrive at Rossio, purchase a ticket for the Sintra line at the ticket counter or a self-service machine. Trains to Sintra run approximately every 30 minutes. Board the train, and enjoy the scenic ride which takes about 40 minutes. Upon arrival at Sintra Station, exit the station and you will find yourself in the town center.
Bus
If you prefer to take the bus, you can reach Sintra by taking the bus from Lisbon. Head to the Sete Rios Bus Station (Estação de Sete Rios), which can be reached by taking the Metro to Jardim Zoológico station on the Blue Line (Linha Azul). Once at Sete Rios, look for the Rede Expressos or Scotturb bus lines that offer direct routes to Sintra. Buses run regularly throughout the day, and the journey will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. After arriving in Sintra, follow the signs to the town center.
Tram
Although there is no direct tram service to Sintra, you can take Tram 28 to get to the Baixa district. From there, walk to Rossio Train Station to catch the train to Sintra. The tram ride offers a unique view of Lisbon's historic neighborhoods. Once you reach Rossio, purchase your train ticket and board the train to Sintra. This combined journey will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
