Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from São Bento Train Station, exit the station and head towards the main square, Praça de Almeida Garrett. From there, take the street Rua de 31 de Janeiro, which will lead you to the famous Avenida dos Aliados. Continue straight until you reach the top of the avenue where you will find the City Hall (Câmara Municipal do Porto). From here, turn left onto Rua de Santa Catarina, then right onto Rua do Almada. Follow this street until you reach the intersection with Rua Ferreira Borges. Turn left and continue walking straight until you arrive at the Ribeira area by the Douro River. From Ribeira, take the stairs or the sloped street up towards the Cathedral, following the signs that read 'Sé' or 'Porto Cathedral'. The Cathedral will be on your right as you reach the top of the hill.

  • Metro

    If you are near the metro, take the Line A (Blue Line) or Line B (Red Line) to the São Bento station. Once you exit the station, follow the same walking instructions as from the São Bento Train Station. Head towards the Praça de Almeida Garrett and continue the route towards Avenida dos Aliados, following the streets until you reach the Porto Cathedral.

  • Tram

    Take the historic Tram Line 22, which travels through many parts of the city. Get off at the stop 'Cordoaria' and walk up the hill towards Rua de São Miguel. Continue straight until you reach Praça da Ribeira. From there, follow the same path towards the Cathedral as mentioned in the walking guidance.
