Car
If you're traveling by car, set your GPS to the coordinates 40.338172, -7.6074904. From the town of Loriga, take the N232 road heading towards the Serra da Estrela Nature Park. Continue on this road for about 10 minutes until you reach the Lagoa da area. There are signs that indicate the way to Lagoa Escondida. Once you arrive at the parking area, be prepared for a short hike to reach the Lagoa Escondida itself.
Public Transportation
To reach Lagoa Escondida via public transportation, take a bus from major towns like Covilhã or Seia to Loriga. The bus service is operated by Rede Nacional de Expressos. Once you arrive in Loriga, you will need to hire a taxi or join a local tour group that can take you to Lagoa Escondida, as public transport does not go directly to the lake. Expect taxi fares to be around 10-15 euros, depending on the distance.
Hiking
For the adventurous, you can start a hike from Loriga to Lagoa Escondida. The hike is approximately 5 kilometers and can take about 1.5 to 2 hours one way, depending on your pace. Follow the trail markers from Loriga, which will take you through beautiful forested areas and up towards the higher elevations of Serra da Estrela. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water, as the trail can be strenuous in places.
