Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, start your journey from the center of Newport. Head east on America's Cup Avenue, then turn left onto Memorial Boulevard. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Ocean Drive. Turn right onto Ocean Drive and follow the scenic route. After about a mile, you'll arrive at Forty Steps, which is located near the entrance to the Cliff Walk. There is limited street parking available in the area, so be sure to check for any parking restrictions.

  For those using public transportation, take the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus service. You can catch the 67 bus from various locations in Newport. Make sure to get off at the 'Cliff Walk' stop. From there, it’s a short walk to Forty Steps. Follow the path toward the Cliff Walk, and you’ll see the steps leading down to the beach. Be aware that bus fares are typically $2.00 per ride, so have exact change ready.

  If you're already nearby, walking is a great option. Start from the main area of Newport and head towards the Cliff Walk. Follow signs for the Cliff Walk until you reach the entrance. From the entrance, walk along the path until you see the stairs leading down to Forty Steps. The area is well marked and offers beautiful views along the way.
