Car
If you are driving from Newport, take Route 138 south and merge onto Route 24. Follow Route 24 to Exit 2 for Route 77 toward Little Compton. Continue on Route 77 for approximately 10 miles until you reach Little Compton. Once in Little Compton, follow the signs towards Sakonnet Point. You will turn onto Sakonnet Point Road, which leads directly to the area near Sakonnet Lighthouse. Please note that parking is limited, so you may need to find street parking nearby.
Public Transportation
To reach Sakonnet Lighthouse via public transportation, take the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus service from Newport. You can catch the bus at the Newport Gateway Center and take the Route 60 bus towards Fall River. After about 30 minutes, get off at the stop for Little Compton. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles to reach Sakonnet Lighthouse. It’s advisable to use a map app on your smartphone for navigation. Biking
For the adventurous, biking from Newport to Sakonnet Lighthouse is a great option. Start on the East Bay Bike Path, which offers scenic views. Follow the path until you reach Route 138, then head south on Route 77 towards Little Compton. The ride is approximately 15 miles one way, so be prepared for a workout. Be cautious of traffic on Route 77, especially as you approach Little Compton. Ensure your bike is in good condition and bring water and snacks for the ride.
