Chateau-sur-Mer: A Glimpse into Newport's Gilded Age

Getting There

• Bus

  From downtown Providence, walk to the Kennedy Plaza bus terminal. Look for the R-Line bus, which travels to Newport. Board the R-Line and sit back for the scenic ride. Once you arrive at the Newport bus terminal, exit the bus and head towards Broadway. Walk along Broadway for about 0.5 miles until you reach Bellevue Avenue. Turn left onto Bellevue Avenue and continue walking for about 1 mile. Chateau-sur-Mer will be on your right at 474 Bellevue Ave.

• Bike

  If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Providence. Start your journey by heading towards the East Bay Bike Path. Follow the path south toward Bristol, and then take the ferry from Bristol to Newport. Upon arriving in Newport, bike along Thames Street, then turn left onto Memorial Boulevard. Continue straight until you reach Bellevue Avenue. Turn right onto Bellevue Avenue and bike for about 1 mile until you reach Chateau-sur-Mer at 474 Bellevue Ave.

• Train and Walk

  From Providence, take the Amtrak train to the Newport station. Upon arrival, exit the station and follow the signs to the bus stop. Take the local bus (Route 67) towards Bellevue Avenue. Get off at the stop closest to 474 Bellevue Ave. From the bus stop, it's a short walk of about 0.3 miles. Head east on Bellevue Ave, and you will find Chateau-sur-Mer on your left.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  For a more direct and quicker option, you can call a taxi or use a rideshare app like Uber or Lyft. Simply input 'Chateau-sur-Mer, 474 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI' as your destination. The driver will navigate you directly to the historical landmark. This option is especially convenient if you're carrying luggage or prefer not to walk.
