From downtown Providence, walk to the nearest bus stop for the RIPTA routes. You can board the Route 60 bus heading towards Newport. The bus ride to Newport takes about 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Newport, disembark at the Washington Square stop. From there, walk towards Washington St, which is approximately a 10-minute walk. Continue straight on Washington St until you reach 1 Washington St, where the Rose Island Foundation is located.
Bike
If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Providence. Start your journey by heading southwest on College St towards the Providence River. Follow the bike paths to the East Bay Bike Path, which leads directly towards Newport. The ride is approximately 15 miles and will take around 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Once you reach Newport, follow the signs to Washington St, and continue until you reach 1 Washington St, the location of the Rose Island Foundation.
Taxi or Rideshare
You can easily request a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) from anywhere in Providence. Simply enter '1 Washington St, Newport, RI' as your destination. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to confirm the driver is taking you to Newport, as this location is outside of Providence.
Walking
While it is quite far to walk from Providence to Newport (approximately 30 miles), if you are adventurous and wish to walk some of the way, you can start by heading south on the Washington St towards the waterfront, and then follow signs towards the Newport Bridge.
