Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Molhașurile Căpățânei.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, you can start your journey from the town of Câmpeni, a central point in the Apuseni Mountains. From Câmpeni, head south on DN75 towards the village of Răchițele. After approximately 15 km, you will reach Răchițele. Continue on the same road for another 10 km, then take a left turn onto the unpaved road towards Molhașurile Căpățânei. Follow this road for about 5 km until you reach the parking area near the reserve. The road can be bumpy, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from the city of Alba Iulia to Câmpeni. Several bus companies operate this route, and it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. From Câmpeni, you will need to take a taxi or arrange for a local driver to take you to Molhașurile Căpățânei, as public transport does not reach the nature reserve directly. The taxi ride from Câmpeni to the reserve will cost approximately 50-70 RON.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the parking area near Molhașurile Căpățânei, you will need to hike approximately 2 km to reach the main attraction for a closer view of the unique peat bogs. The trail is well-marked, but be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes as the terrain can be uneven and muddy. The hike should take around 30-40 minutes.
