Getting there

Car

If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major town, Făgăraș. Head south on DN1 towards the Transfăgărășan road (DN7C). After approximately 30 km, you will reach the entrance to Transfăgărășan. Follow this scenic mountain road toward the north until you reach the parking area at Bâlea Lac (approximately 55 km). The parking fee is around 5 RON per hour. From Bâlea Lac, you will need to hike approximately 30 minutes on a marked trail to reach Lacul Capra.

Public Transportation

To use public transportation, take a train or bus to Făgăraș. From Făgăraș, you can catch a bus to Bâlea Lac, which operates during the summer months. The bus ride takes about 1.5 hours and costs around 20 RON. Once you arrive at Bâlea Lac, follow the marked hiking trail for about 30 minutes to reach Lacul Capra.

Hiking

If you are already in the vicinity of the Fagaras Mountains and wish to hike to Lacul Capra, start from Bâlea Lac. The trail is well-marked and takes about 30 minutes of moderate hiking through beautiful alpine scenery. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and bring water, as the trail can be steep in places.
