If you are traveling by car, head towards the Transfăgărășan road (DN7C), which is well-marked. From the city of Sibiu, take DN1 towards Râmnicu Vâlcea, then switch to DN7C. Follow the signs for Arefu. The journey takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Once you reach Arefu, look for the signs to Poenari Citadel. You will need to park in the designated parking area near the entrance.

For those using public transportation, start by taking a train from Bucharest to Râmnicu Vâlcea. From Râmnicu Vâlcea, you can catch a bus (check schedules as they may vary) to the town of Arefu.
