Walking
From the center of Butare (near the National Museum), head south on Avenue de la Republique towards Avenue du 1er Novembre. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Avenue du Commerce. Turn left onto Avenue du Commerce and walk until you reach the bus station. From here, you can catch a shared taxi (also known as 'matatus') heading towards Gikongoro. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the memorial, it is a short walk from the main road.

If you prefer to cycle, start at the National Museum in Butare and take Avenue de la Republique south. Keep riding until you reach the junction with Avenue du Commerce, where you turn left. Continue straight to the bus station. At the bus station, you can ask someone for the best way to catch a matatu to Gikongoro. After getting off, follow the signs to the Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre, which is nearby.
