From the center of Butare (near the National Museum), head south on Avenue de la Republique towards Avenue du 1er Novembre. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Avenue du Commerce. Turn left onto Avenue du Commerce and walk until you reach the bus station. From here, you can catch a shared taxi (also known as 'matatus') heading towards Gikongoro.
