If you are traveling by car, navigate to Mukingo by following the main roads from Kigali. From Kigali, take the RN1 highway towards Musanze. Once you reach Musanze, continue on the RN4 towards Nyiragongo. As you get closer to Mukingo, set your GPS to the coordinates (latitude: -1.5028715, longitude: 29.4917049). The final stretch will lead you to a dirt road that takes you directly to Nyirankona. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain, as the last section may require a 4WD due to the nature of the road. Parking is usually available near the start of the hiking trails.

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Kigali to Musanze, which is a popular destination with several bus companies operating this route. Upon arriving in Musanze, you can catch a local taxi or a moto-taxi to Mukingo. Make sure to inform the driver that you are heading to Nyirankona. Once you reach Mukingo, you may need to walk or arrange for a local guide to take you the remaining distance to Nyirankona, as public transport may not go directly to the hiking area. Always confirm the total fare with the driver before starting your journey.
