Getting There

    If you are traveling by car, start from Gisenyi, which is a popular town on the shores of Lake Kivu. Head south on Avenue de la Révolution towards the Nyanza River. After approximately 7 km, take the left turn onto the road leading to Colline Ibanda. Follow this road for about 5 km until you reach the village of Ibanda. The Bigugu Hiking Trail is located near the end of this road. Look for the signposted entrance to the trail, which is about 1 km from the main road. Please note that parking is available near the trailhead.

  • Public Transportation

    For those using public transportation, you can take a 'moto-taxi' or a shared minibus (known locally as 'matatus') from Gisenyi to the village of Ibanda. The fare for the shared minibus is approximately RWF 500. Once you arrive in Ibanda, you can ask the locals for directions to the Bigugu Hiking Trail, which is about a 10-minute walk from the village center. Be sure to negotiate the moto-taxi fare beforehand, which usually costs around RWF 1000 to 2000 depending on your negotiation skills.
