Car
If you are traveling by car from Musanze Caves, start by heading southeast on Avenue du Commerce toward Avenue de la Réunification. After about 1.5 kilometers, turn left onto the road towards Nyakinama. Continue straight on this road for approximately 10 kilometers. Look for signage indicating Volcanoes Forest Camp or GPS coordinates (FJW5+GQ9). The camp will be located on your right side, surrounded by lush vegetation.
Taxi
To reach Volcanoes Forest Camp by taxi, you can easily find a taxi in Musanze Caves. Inform the driver that you want to go to Volcanoes Forest Camp near Nyakinama. The fare should typically range between 10,000 to 15,000 Rwandan Francs (RWF) depending on traffic conditions and negotiation. The drive will take roughly 20-30 minutes.
Public Transportation (Bus)
For those opting for public transportation, you can catch a bus from Musanze to Nyakinama. Head to the bus station in Musanze and look for buses heading towards Nyakinama. The bus fare is around 500 RWF. Once you arrive in Nyakinama, you may need to hire a motorcycle taxi (also known as 'moto') to reach Volcanoes Forest Camp, which will cost approximately 2,000 RWF and takes about 10 minutes.
Motorcycle Taxi (Moto)
If you are already in Nyakinama or prefer a faster option, you can hire a motorcycle taxi to take you directly to Volcanoes Forest Camp. Just ask a local for a nearby moto driver and negotiate the fare, which should be around 2,000 RWF. The journey will only take about 10 minutes, and it’s an exhilarating way to experience the local scenery.
