Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Rubavu, head north on Avenue de la Révolution towards the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Avenue de l'Indépendance. Continue straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the bus station (Gare Routière). Here, you can find buses heading to Ruhengeri. Take a bus to Ruhengeri, which should take approximately 1 hour. Once in Ruhengeri, head east on Avenue du 1er Novembre for about 1.5 kilometers; you will see signs directing you to Volcanoes National Park. Follow the signs until you arrive at the park entrance.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle in Rubavu. Start from the center, heading north on Avenue de la Révolution. Follow the same route to the bus station but continue on the main road towards Ruhengeri. The ride will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your speed. Once in Ruhengeri, use Avenue du 1er Novembre to reach the park entrance, which is well-marked.

  • Mototaxi

    For a quicker option, you can take a mototaxi (motorcycle taxi) from anywhere in Rubavu. Simply flag one down and tell the driver you want to go to Ruhengeri. The ride will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Ruhengeri, instruct the driver to drop you off at the entrance of Volcanoes National Park, or follow the signs as described earlier.
