Walking
From the center of Gisenyi, head east on Avenue du Lac towards Avenue de la République. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the main road that leads to Ruhengeri. You will pass by local shops and cafes along the way. Once you reach the main road, you can either take a moto-taxi or continue walking if you prefer. If you choose to walk, follow the road signs for Ruhengeri, which will lead you through beautiful landscapes and possibly some local villages.

If you prefer a quicker option, you can hire a moto-taxi from any moto-taxi stand in Gisenyi. Simply tell the driver you want to go to Ruhengeri, specifically to Volcanoes National Park. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic, and you will enjoy the scenic views along the way. Make sure to agree on the price before starting your journey.

Public Transport (Bus)
From Gisenyi, head to the bus station located near the lakefront. Look for buses heading to Ruhengeri. The buses usually leave every hour. It’s advisable to ask locals or the bus station staff for the next departure time. The bus ride takes around 2 hours. Once you arrive in Ruhengeri, you can either walk or take a moto-taxi to the entrance of Volcanoes National Park.
