Walking
Start at the main market in Ruhengeri, known as 'Ruhengeri Market'. From the market, head north on Avenue de la Revolution towards the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Avenue du 1er Novembre. Continue straight until you reach the main bus station, known as 'Gare Routiere'. Here, look for a motorcycle taxi (commonly known as 'moto') heading to Ntaruka. Confirm with the driver that they are going to Lake Burera. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Ntaruka, ask the driver to drop you off at the Lake Burera Boat Point.
Motorcycle Taxi
If you are near the central area of Ruhengeri, find a motorcycle taxi (moto) stand. Tell the driver you want to go to Lake Burera Boat Point in Ntaruka. The ride will take about 30-40 minutes. During the ride, enjoy the scenic views of the countryside. The driver should know the exact location, but you can also show them the address: Ntaruka, which is a well-known area. Once you arrive at the boat point, you can rent a boat for a tour on Lake Burera.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from a local shop in Ruhengeri. From the market square, head north towards Avenue de la Revolution, then take Avenue du 1er Novembre towards the bus station. After passing the bus station, continue on the road heading towards Ntaruka. The journey is approximately 10 km and will take around 1-1.5 hours, depending on your pace. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Lake Burera as you approach Ntaruka.
