Getting There

Car
If you're traveling by car from any location within Volcanoes National Park, head towards the main park entrance at Kinigi. From Kinigi, take the road towards Musanze (Ruhengeri). After about 30 minutes, look for the sign for Virunga Lodge on your left. Turn left onto the dirt road and continue for about 15 minutes until you reach the lodge's entrance. Ensure your car is suitable for rough terrain as the last stretch is unpaved.

To reach Virunga Lodge using public transportation, take a moto-taxi from the main park entrance in Kinigi to Musanze. The cost is approximately 2,000 Rwandan Francs (RWF) for this short ride. Once in Musanze, hire another moto-taxi that can take you to Virunga Lodge. The fare for this second leg should be around 5,000 RWF. Be sure to mention 'Colline Gakoro' to the driver. The ride will take about 30 minutes, and you may need to ask locals for directions if you are unsure.
