Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main town of Toubakouta. Navigate to the coordinates PH8C+5GF, which you can plug into your GPS or map application. Drive towards the east along the N6 road for about 4 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Sonko. The area is marked with local signs. Once you turn, continue for about 1 kilometer on the smaller road until you reach the entrance to Sonko. Be prepared for some unpaved sections, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended. Parking should be available at the site.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, head to the main bus station in Toubakouta. Look for a 'sept-place' (shared taxi) heading towards the direction of the N6 road. The fare is approximately 500-1000 CFA depending on your negotiation skills. Inform the driver of your destination (Sonko) so they can drop you off at the nearest point. From there, you may need to walk or hire a local motorcycle taxi (around 1000 CFA) to cover the remaining distance to Sonko. Ensure you have cash on hand for fares.
Motorcycle Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route once in Toubakouta, you can hire a motorcycle taxi (known locally as 'Jakarta'). This option is usually quicker than a shared taxi. Negotiate your fare ahead of time, which should be around 2000 CFA for a trip directly to Sonko. The motorcycle taxi can take you through smaller, less accessible roads, making your journey more efficient and adventurous.
