History of MacRitchie Reservoir

MacRitchie Reservoir, the oldest reservoir in Singapore, was constructed in 1868. It was originally known as the Impounding Reservoir and was built to address the water supply needs of the growing colony. The project was initiated by the British colonial government and designed by engineer James MacRitchie, after whom the reservoir was later named.
