Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the center of Savinja, head southeast on the main road towards Velika Planina. Follow signs for the 'Velika Planina' ski resort. The most direct route is via the H4 highway. After approximately 20 minutes of driving, take the exit toward Velika Planina. Continue on the local roads, following the signs. You will arrive at Vetrnica located at 1242 Velika Planina. Parking is available nearby, but there may be a small fee for parking, typically around €5.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Vetrnica using public transportation, start by taking a train from Savinja to Kamnik. You can catch a train from the Savinja train station. Once you arrive in Kamnik, you will need to transfer to a local bus that heads towards Velika Planina. The bus ride will take about 30 minutes. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance as times may vary. After getting off at the Velika Planina bus stop, follow the signs or local directions to Vetrnica, which is a short walk from the bus stop. The total cost for the train and bus can range from €10 to €15.

• Hiking

  For the more adventurous travelers, consider hiking to Vetrnica from the nearest trailhead. Start from the base of Velika Planina, where you can park your car or take public transport. There are well-marked hiking trails leading up to Vetrnica. The hike typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water. This option is free but requires a good level of fitness.
