Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, such as Port Elizabeth. Take the N2 highway towards Grahamstown (Makhanda), which is approximately a 1.5-hour drive (about 130 km). Once you reach Makhanda, take the exit for Settlers Way/R67 and follow the signs for the Botanical Gardens. Turn onto Lucas Ave, and the Botanical Gardens will be located on your right. There is usually no entrance fee, but confirm on-site for any special events or exhibits.

Public Transportation (Bus)
For those using public transportation, take a Greyhound or Intercape bus from Port Elizabeth to Makhanda. The journey takes around 2 hours. Once you arrive at the Makhanda bus station, you can either walk (about 15 minutes) or catch a local taxi to the Botanical Gardens. Head southwest on High Street, turn left onto Lucas Ave, and the gardens will be ahead. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance for departure times and ticket prices, which typically range from R100 to R200.

Once in Makhanda, if you prefer not to walk, you can use a local taxi (minibus taxi). After arriving at the bus station, ask for a taxi heading towards the Botanical Gardens. The fare is usually around R10 to R20 per person. Make sure to confirm the destination with the driver before boarding.
