Car
If you are driving from the Sunshine Coast area, start by heading towards the N2 highway. Follow the N2 in the direction of Grahamstown. After approximately 120 kilometers, take the exit towards the R63 toward Graaff-Reinet. Continue on the R63 until you reach Graaff-Reinet, which is around 50 kilometers away. Once in Graaff-Reinet, follow the signs to the Valley of Desolation, which is located about 15 kilometers from the town center. The entrance to the valley is well marked. Note that there is a small entrance fee of approximately R20 per vehicle.

For those using public transport, you can take a bus from Port Elizabeth or East London to Graaff-Reinet. Various bus services operate along this route, and the journey may take approximately 3-4 hours. Once you arrive in Graaff-Reinet, you will need to hire a taxi or use a local shuttle service to reach the Valley of Desolation, which is about 15 kilometers from the bus station. Ensure to negotiate the fare with the taxi driver beforehand. The cost for the taxi ride could range from R150 to R250 depending on the service and time of day.
