Walking
From the Mount Rushmore National Memorial visitor center, begin your journey by heading east on SD-244 E towards US-16A. After approximately 0.6 miles, continue straight onto SD-244 E for another 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with US-16A. Turn right onto US-16A and walk for about 1.5 miles. You will pass through the scenic Black Hills area, enjoying the natural beauty surrounding you. As you approach Keystone, you will see signs directing you to the town. Upon entering Keystone, continue on US-16A until you reach 3rd St. Turn left onto 3rd St, and the Abandoned Historic Keystone Mines will be located at 598 3rd St, Keystone, SD 57751, on your right.

From the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, you can take a local shuttle or bus service that operates between Mount Rushmore and Keystone. Check with local visitor information for shuttle schedules. Once you board the shuttle, inform the driver of your destination, which is the Abandoned Historic Keystone Mines. The shuttle will take you directly to Keystone, and you will need to ask the driver to drop you off at 3rd St. After disembarking, walk a short distance to 598 3rd St, where the mines are located.
