Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Girona. Head northwest on the C-66 road towards Banyoles. After about 10 kilometers, take the exit towards the GI-524 road. Continue on the GI-524 until you reach the town of Sant Miquel de Campmajor. From there, follow the signs to Castell de Sant Miquel, which will lead you through scenic countryside roads. There is parking available near the castle.
Public Transportation
To reach Castell de Sant Miquel using public transportation, start by taking a train from Girona to the nearest station, which is in the town of Banyoles. From Banyoles, you can catch a local bus that goes towards Sant Miquel de Campmajor. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they can vary. The bus will drop you off near the foot of the hill leading up to Castell de Sant Miquel. From there, it’s a steep but rewarding hike to the castle, so wear comfortable shoes.
Hiking
For those who are adventurous, you can also hike to Castell de Sant Miquel from the town of Sant Miquel de Campmajor. There are well-marked hiking trails that lead directly to the castle. The hike is approximately 4 kilometers and takes about an hour. Along the way, you'll enjoy beautiful views of the Pyrenees landscape.
