From the center of Santiago de Compostela, head to the main bus station, Estación de Autobuses de Santiago, located at Avenida de Lugo, 2. You can walk there in about 20 minutes from the Cathedral. Once at the bus station, look for a bus heading to Pontevedra. The journey will take approximately 1 hour. After arriving at the Pontevedra bus station, exit the station, and you can reach Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor by walking for about 10 minutes. Head southeast on Avenida de la Estación, turn left onto Calle de la Virgen, and then continue straight until you reach Av. Santa María. The church will be on your right.

Train
To take the train, make your way to the Santiago de Compostela train station, located at Calle del Hórreo, 1. This is about a 25-minute walk from the Cathedral. Once at the station, purchase a ticket for the train to Pontevedra. Trains generally run every hour and the journey lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. After arriving at Pontevedra train station, exit and walk for about 15 minutes to reach Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor. Head southwest on Avenida de la Estación, then turn left onto Calle de la Virgen, and continue straight until you reach Av. Santa María where the church is located.

If you prefer walking, you can start from the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It is about a 1.5-hour walk to Pontevedra. Head west on Rua do Vilar and continue straight onto Rua de San Pedro. Follow signs for the N-550 highway, which will take you to Pontevedra. Once you reach the city, navigate towards Av. Santa María. The Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor will be located at number 24 on this avenue.
