Car
If you're traveling by car, you can set your GPS to the coordinates 7.4888442, 81.4331763. Start from Ampara town and take the A4 highway heading east. Continue for approximately 30 km until you reach the turnoff for FCQM+G7. Follow the signs for Nuwaragala Mountain. The last stretch may involve a dirt road, so ensure your vehicle can handle it. Parking is available near the base of the mountain.
Public Transportation
To reach Nuwaragala Mountain via public transport, first, take a bus from Ampara bus station to the nearest town, which is known as 'Gonagalukanda'. The bus fare is typically around LKR 50-100. From Gonagalukanda, you may need to hire a tuk-tuk (three-wheeler) to cover the remaining distance. This should cost about LKR 500. Ensure you confirm the fare before starting the journey. The tuk-tuk will take you as close to the mountain as possible, where you can start your hike.
Walking
If you arrive by tuk-tuk but are dropped off a bit further away, you may need to walk the last part. The path to the base of Nuwaragala Mountain is well-trodden but can be steep in places. Ensure you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water for the hike.
