Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Kandy, the capital of the Central Province. Head south on the A1 highway towards Colombo. After approximately 10 km, take a left turn onto the A26 road towards Nuwara Eliya. Continue on the A26 for about 30 km until you reach the town of Nuwara Eliya. From there, take the B2 road towards Haggala. After about 15 km, keep an eye out for signs directing you to Wangedigala. The final stretch includes a narrow road leading up to the mountain. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for this terrain, as it can be steep and bumpy. Parking is available near the trailhead.
Public Transportation
To reach Wangedigala using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. The bus leaves from the Kandy Bus Station and costs around 150 LKR. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Nuwara Eliya, transfer to a local bus heading towards Haggala. This bus ride will cost about 50 LKR and takes around 30 minutes. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at Haggala junction, where you'll see signs for Wangedigala. From there, you may need to hire a three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) to reach the trailhead, which will cost approximately 300-500 LKR depending on negotiation and distance.
Trekking
If you're adventurous and prefer trekking, you can hike to Wangedigala from Haggala. The trek will take approximately 3-4 hours, depending on your fitness level. Be sure to wear proper hiking gear and carry water and snacks. The trail is marked, but it's advisable to have a local guide if you're unfamiliar with the area. You can hire a guide in Nuwara Eliya for around 2000-3000 LKR for the day.
