Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Nuwara Eliya, take the A7 road towards Kandy. After about 35 km, turn onto the A26 road at the junction near Gampola. Continue on the A26 until you reach the town of Ratnapura. From Ratnapura, follow the signs to the A4 road, which will lead you directly to Udawalawe National Park. The total drive is approximately 3 hours depending on traffic. Ensure you have a GPS or a reliable map app for navigation.

• Bus

  To reach Udawalawe National Park by bus from Nuwara Eliya, head to the main bus station where you can catch a bus to Kandy. Once in Kandy, transfer to a bus heading to Ratnapura. From Ratnapura, there are local buses that go directly to Udawalawe. The total travel time can take up to 5 hours, so make sure to check the bus schedules in advance. Bus fares are generally affordable, expect to pay around 200 LKR from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy and another 150 LKR from Kandy to Ratnapura.
