If you're traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Horton Plains National Park. Drive along the main access road until you reach the B512 highway. Turn right onto B512 and continue for approximately 5 kilometers. Keep an eye out for signs pointing towards Kande Ela Reservoir. The reservoir will be on your right side, and there is a designated parking area available.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a local bus from Nuwara Eliya or Haputale to the Horton Plains entrance. Once you arrive at the park, you will need to hire a tuk-tuk (three-wheeler) to take you to Kande Ela Reservoir. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand; it should typically be around 1,500 to 2,000 LKR for the round trip, depending on your negotiation skills and the time spent at the reservoir.

If you prefer to walk from the park entrance to Kande Ela Reservoir, it is about a 5-kilometer trek along the B512 road. This route offers beautiful scenery, but be prepared for the possibility of limited footpaths. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and carry water. It may take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the reservoir on foot.
