Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Matara Bus Station. Head east on Matara - Deniyaya Rd (A2) for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction near the Matara Clock Tower. From there, turn left onto the Pamburana Rd and continue walking straight for about 2 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Viharahena. You will see signs directing you to Samangala Jana Wijaya Chethiya. Follow the signs, and after another 1 kilometer of walking, you will arrive at the temple located on Enasalwaththa Rd.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    From any location in Matara, you can easily catch a tuk-tuk to Samangala Jana Wijaya Chethiya. Simply tell the driver you want to go to 'Viharahena Samangala Chethiya'. The ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. The tuk-tuk will drop you off at the entrance on Enasalwaththa Rd, from where you can walk a short distance to the temple.

    Take a local bus from Matara Bus Station towards Deniyaya. You should board one that indicates 'Deniyaya' or 'Viharahena'. After about 30-40 minutes, ask the conductor to drop you off at Viharahena.
