    If you are in the main area of Unawatuna, start by heading towards the beach. Walk along the main road (Matara Road) until you reach the Unawatuna Beach. From the beach, look for the small path that leads to Rumassala Hill (you can ask locals for directions if needed). Follow the path for around 20 minutes, passing through lush greenery and local shops. As you get closer, you’ll see signs directing you to Rumassala Sanctuary. Continue following the path uphill until you reach the sanctuary entrance at coordinates 6.0180556, 80.2416667.

  • Bike

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Unawatuna. Begin your journey on the Matara Road heading towards the east. After about 1 km, you will notice a sign for Rumassala on your right. Turn onto the small road and continue cycling for about 2 km until you reach the sanctuary. The ride will take you through beautiful landscapes, and you will have the opportunity to stop and enjoy local sights along the way.

    Hail a tuk-tuk from anywhere in Unawatuna. Tell the driver you want to go to Rumassala Sanctuary. The ride should take approximately 10 minutes, depending on traffic. As you approach Rumassala Hill, the driver will likely know the exact location. Once you arrive, make sure to confirm with the driver the best spot for them to wait for you while you explore the sanctuary.
