It once served as the main reception area for goods and remains a reminder of the city’s maritime origins and ongoing relationship with shipping. Stora Hamnkanalen links visually and historically to nearby harbour quays and to the Göta älv estuary beyond, giving a condensed sense of how the modern city grew from a working waterfront.
