Birth of a City Symbol

Oscarsborg emerged from the vision of Söderhamns Sångförening in the late 19th century, spearheaded by choirmaster and city engineer Gustaf Hultqvist, who designed the sturdy brick tower. Fundraising folk festivals in 1893 and 1894 raised enough to elevate the structure from humble wood to elegant brick and plaster. On August 25, 1895, it was inaugurated by city council chairman Gabriel Schöning, honoring King Oscar II and instantly becoming Söderhamn's enduring emblem.

Perched at 23 meters atop Östra Berget, the tower commands breathtaking views across Söderhamn's coastal landscape.
