A compact mountain neighbourhood with varied terrain

Tandådalen occupies a compact bowl of pistes and ridgelines that balance broad, cruiser-friendly slopes on the eastern side with steeper, technically demanding runs around the central Tandådalstorget area. The eastern slopes favour long, carved turns while central Tandådalstorget and the Solliften zone host steeper black runs and challenging pitches. The terrain suits a broad spectrum of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners practising on gentle nursery areas to advanced riders seeking tighter lines and steeper fall-lines.

Snow park, freestyle features and training spaces

Tandådalen contains one of the largest snow-park complexes in the Sälen network, with progression lines ranging from green/easy features for first-time park riders up to advanced rails, boxes and jumps. Park design emphasises flow and line choice, and there are also fun-ride elements and dedicated zones intended for skill development and freestyle training. Areas adjacent to the park often host coaching and organised sessions during the main season.

Tandådalstorget: service, shops and meeting points

The heart of the area is Tandådalstorget, a small service nucleus where the SkiStarshop Concept Store and rental desks, cafés and warming huts cluster. This is where people collect hire kit, arrange tuning or book lessons; the Concept Store blends retail, test-centre facilities and guest services in one place. Around the square you’ll find cafeterias, sheltered seating and infrastructure that supports a full day on the hill without needing to travel far from the slopes.

Connection to Hundfjället and wider Sälen network

Tandådalen is connected by transport lifts to neighbouring Hundfjället, creating an extended skiing area with contrasting character: Hundfjället’s wide avenues and family zones complement Tandådalen’s mix of park terrain and steeper runs. Together the linked areas form part of the larger SkiStar Sälen system, giving access to dozens of pistes, multiple lift types and inter-area shuttle options that expand routing and day-planning choices for all abilities.

Seasonal character and mountain atmosphere

The place takes on different moods through the season: crisp, early-season sunlight on groomed runs; midwinter nights under clear skies and piste lights; and late-season spring-ski conditions where firm mornings often soften into slush by afternoon. Conifers and low mountain ridges frame many viewpoints and the compact service centre makes for easy transitions between skiing, coffee breaks and equipment care.

Facilities, learning environments and family features

Facilities cluster efficiently around the central square: ski-school meeting points, marked beginner areas, rullband conveyor lifts for children and practical service points such as restrooms and small cafeterias. The design of the learning areas emphasises short, safe practice circuits with visible progress markers; grill areas and sheltered benches are located at several nodes, giving families and groups convenient places to regroup and warm up during a day on the slopes.
