Founded by Sven Erikson, a pivotal figure in the region's textile boom, the mill marked the cradle of Sweden's textile industry and early mail-order trade. The manor's classicist design shines through in its doors and windows, evoking an era when Rydal buzzed with factory life along the Viskan River.Torsten Ek, who managed the mill from 1921 to 1954, left his mark—literally, with his signature etched into the front door from 1935. Known as the 'king of Rydal' for his commanding presence, Ek resided here with his family until the house transitioned into a factory canteen. Today, visitors can glimpse family photos from the 2020 renovations, connecting past and present.

Since 1968, the manor has evolved into a beloved inn, hosting life's celebrations from weddings to conferences. Olof and Sara Söderberg revitalized it in 2020, reopening after pandemic-era renovations in 2021. The space now blends preserved history with welcoming functionality, its rooms ideal for private events or casual meals.The surrounding village retains its brukssamhälle character—an intact industrial community where factory workers once lived and labored. Opposite the Herrgård, Rydal Museum preserves spinning machines from the 1940s, offering a sensory dive into textile history through interactive exhibits and soundscapes.
