What it is

MFO Park is a public urban park in Zurich-Nord, built on the site of the former Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon works. Opened in 2002, it is best understood as contemporary landscape architecture rather than a traditional park. The centrepiece is a tall, open steel structure planted with climbing greenery, forming a kind of walk-through park-house with stairs, seating ledges, loggias and an upper viewing deck.The result is compact but memorable: part shelter, part sculpture, part public room. It is one of Zurich’s clearest examples of industrial land being turned into usable green space without erasing the site’s past.

Access is easy by public transport, with Zurich Oerlikon the most practical arrival point and a short walk from there. The site is flat and urban, so it is also realistic to reach by bicycle. Driving is possible, but transit is usually simpler in this district. The park itself is free to enter and generally open as a public space, though event setups can change the atmosphere.Weather matters.
