From the center of Zermatt, head towards Bahnhofstrasse, the main street. Walk straight until you reach the end of the street, where you will see the cable car station on your left. Purchase a ticket for the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Take the cable car up to the Schwarzsee station. Once you arrive at Schwarzsee (2600 m), follow the signs directing you to the Zermatt Sign, which is a short walk from the cable car station.
