Getting There

  • Car

    From Mahale Mountains National Park, head south on the main road towards Ujiji. Continue on this road until you reach the town of Kigoma. Once in Kigoma, follow signs for the ferry terminal. Take the ferry across Lake Tanganyika to the town of Kalemie in the Democratic Republic of Congo. From Kalemie, drive east towards the border with Tanzania. Once you cross the border back into Tanzania, continue on the main road until you reach Lake Manyara National Park.

    From Mahale Mountains National Park, take a local dala dala (minibus) to the town of Kigoma. From Kigoma, you can either take a public ferry or hire a private boat to cross Lake Tanganyika to the town of Kalemie in the Democratic Republic of Congo. From Kalemie, take a bus or taxi east towards the border with Tanzania. Once you cross the border back into Tanzania, you can take a bus or taxi to Lake Manyara National Park.
