Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Moshi, which is the nearest major town to Mount Kilimanjaro. From Moshi, head southeast on the A23 highway towards Marangu. After about 12 kilometers, take the exit towards Kibo Hotel, which is a common starting point for treks to Kilimanjaro. Continue on this road, following the signs to Marangu Gate. Once you reach Marangu Gate, you will need to pay the park entry fee, which is approximately $70 USD per person for international tourists. After passing the gate, you will drive further up the road until you reach a designated parking area where guides will meet you.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a shared taxi (daladala) from Moshi to Marangu. The fare is usually around 1,500 TZS (Tanzanian Shillings). The taxi will drop you off at Marangu Gate. From there, you must pay the park entry fee, which is about $70 USD per person for foreign visitors. After paying, you can hire a guide and porter at the gate or have pre-arranged services. The trek to Gilman's Point will begin from here, typically taking a few days depending on your chosen route.

After reaching Marangu Gate, you will start your hike towards Gilman's Point. The most common route is the Marangu Route. It usually takes about 5-6 days to reach the summit. Make sure to follow the trail markers and signage. The hike to Gilman's Point is steep and can be challenging; it's essential to be well-prepared with appropriate gear, food, and water. Your guide will assist you throughout the trek.
