Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are near the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe) in the Stone Town area, exit the fort and head towards the main road, Mizingani Road. Walk east along Mizingani Road for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with the main road. Take a left onto the road leading towards the Forodhani Gardens. Continue walking straight for about 300 meters, passing the gardens on your right. From the gardens, you will need to navigate towards the busy area of Darajani Market. Once at the market, head to the eastern exit, which will lead you onto the road of Karume Rd. Follow Karume Rd for about 1 kilometer, and you will find the Karume Monument on your left. The monument is a notable park area with a tall tower that provides scenic views of Zanzibar.

    If you are at the Zanzibar Ferry Terminal, exit the terminal and turn left onto the main road. Keep walking straight for about 800 meters until you reach the intersection with Mizingani Road. Turn right onto Mizingani Road and continue walking for approximately 400 meters. You will see signs directing you towards the Karume Monument. As you approach the area, look for the Karume Rd and turn left. Walk along Karume Rd for about 500 meters, and the monument will be on your right-hand side.

    If you are staying at a hotel in the Stone Town area, such as the Tembo House Hotel, exit the hotel and head towards the waterfront. Walk along the shore for about 300 meters until you reach the Forodhani Gardens. From there, walk through the gardens and exit towards Darajani Market. Navigate through the market towards the eastern exit and continue on to Karume Rd. Walk along Karume Rd for about 1 kilometer, and you will reach the Karume Monument on your left.
