Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Phuket Town. Take Route 4027 heading north towards Ko Kaeo. Continue for about 7 km until you reach the intersection with Route 402. Turn left onto Route 402 and drive for approximately 5 km. Look for signs towards Koh Maphrao; you will soon see signs indicating the direction to the pier. The journey takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
Public Bus
From Phuket Town, you can take a public bus (Songthaew) towards the northern part of the island. Get on a bus that is heading to Sarasin Bridge, and inform the driver you want to get off at Ko Kaeo. The bus ride will take about 45 minutes. Once you arrive at Ko Kaeo, you'll need to catch a local taxi or a tuk-tuk to the pier that services Koh Maphrao. The taxi ride from the bus stop to the pier will take around 10-15 minutes and may cost you approximately 200-300 THB.
Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service
If you prefer a more direct route, you can book a taxi or a ride-hailing service like Grab from Phuket Town directly to the pier for Koh Maphrao. The trip will take around 20-30 minutes and should cost between 400-600 THB depending on the time of day and traffic conditions.
Boat
Once you reach the pier for Koh Maphrao, you will need to take a boat to the island. Boats typically run every 30 minutes, and the ride lasts about 15 minutes. The cost for a round trip is usually around 200-300 THB per person. Be sure to check the schedule in advance, as the last boat back can vary depending on the season.
