    From the Old City area of Chiang Mai, head to the nearest main road, which is probably Ratchadamnoen Road. Look for a Songthaew (red truck taxi) that is heading towards Mae Rim. You can wave one down as they pass by. Make sure to tell the driver your destination: Mae Rim District. The ride should take about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic, and the driver will drop you off in the central area of Mae Rim.
