If you are travelling by car within the Mekong River Region, start your journey from a central location in Thailand, such as Nakhon Phanom. Drive east towards the Mekong River, following Route 212. Continue along this road until you reach the border checkpoint at Mukdahan. After crossing the border into Laos, follow Route 13 north until you reach Vientiane. From Vientiane, continue southeast towards the border with Cambodia, crossing at the Dom Kralor checkpoint. Once in Cambodia, proceed towards Phnom Penh. The Mekong River is easily accessible from the city, and you can find various viewpoints along the riverbank.

For those traveling by public transportation, you can take a bus from major cities in Thailand, such as Bangkok or Nakhon Phanom, to Mukdahan. From Mukdahan, take a bus to Vientiane in Laos. Once in Vientiane, you can catch another bus to Phnom Penh. The bus ride from Vientiane to Phnom Penh typically takes about 10-12 hours. Ensure you have your visa ready for entry into Cambodia. Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, you can easily access the Mekong River by taxi or local tuk-tuk, which should cost around $2-5 depending on your exact location.
