Getting There

  • Walking

    From Bakau, start at the Bakau Fish Market, a well-known landmark. Head east along the main road (Kairaba Avenue) towards the junction with the Brikama Highway. Once you reach the junction, cross the road carefully, as traffic can be busy. Continue straight along the Brikama Highway heading towards Lamin. Keep an eye out for signs pointing to Abuko Nature Reserve, which will be on your left side after approximately 2.5 kilometers. The entrance is marked, and you should see the reserve's signboard. The total walking distance is about 3 kilometers, which should take around 30-40 minutes.

  • Bicycle

    If you are cycling, start from the Bakau Fish Market and proceed toward Kairaba Avenue. Turn left onto Kairaba Avenue and ride east until you reach the junction with the Brikama Highway. Turn right onto Brikama Highway and cycle along this road. Be cautious of traffic as you ride. Abuko Nature Reserve will be on your left after about 2.5 kilometers. The entrance will be clearly marked. The ride should take around 15-20 minutes, depending on your speed.

  • Public Transport

    To reach Abuko Nature Reserve using public transport, you can take a 'Gele-Gele' (local minibus taxi) from Bakau. Head to the nearest bus stop on Kairaba Avenue and look for a bus heading towards Brikama. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Abuko Nature Reserve. After about 15-20 minutes of travel, the bus will stop near the reserve. Be sure to ask the driver or fellow passengers for the best stop to get off. Once you disembark, walk back a short distance to the entrance of the reserve, which will be on your left.
