Getting There

  • Car

    From Sandu, head northwest on the main road towards Brikama Hwy. Continue driving for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the junction where you turn onto Brikama Hwy. Follow Brikama Hwy for about 5 kilometers. You will see the entrance to Abuko Nature Reserve on your left. Look for signs that indicate the entrance, as it is well-marked. There may be a small entrance fee to enter the park, so be prepared with some local currency.

  • Public Transportation (Bush Taxi)

    To reach Abuko Nature Reserve using public transport, find a bush taxi heading towards Brikama. These can be found at designated taxi stands in Sandu. Once you are on the bush taxi, inform the driver that you want to go to Abuko Nature Reserve. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. When you reach Brikama Hwy, get off at the nearest stop to the reserve. You may need to walk a short distance to reach the entrance, which is about 500 meters from the main road. Be prepared to pay a small fee for entry into the reserve.

  • Motorbike Taxi

    Another option is to take a motorbike taxi from Sandu. This is a quicker but less conventional method. You can hire a motorbike taxi from the street. Tell the driver to take you to Abuko Nature Reserve. The ride should take around 20-30 minutes, and you can expect to pay a slightly higher fare than that of a bush taxi. Make sure to negotiate the price before you start your journey. Once you arrive, check if there is an entrance fee for the nature reserve.
